Programme Note
Un eco di soffio II treats the prepared resonant piano as an acoustic space rather than a keyboard instrument. A single performer alternates between bass and B-flat clarinet, activating sympathetic vibrations within the open piano while the Extended Pedal allows its resonance to be shaped away from the keyboard.
A remotely controlled vibration source placed inside the piano introduces a continuous internal energy. Controlled by a second performer, it does not process the clarinet sound electronically but sets the piano’s own strings and soundboard into vibration, creating an unstable field between breath, instrumental sound and acoustic resonance.
The work moves between sound and silence, control and instability, source and echo. Human breath, concealed vibration and sympathetic resonance continually redefine one another, allowing the piano to behave as an acoustic organism whose internal response is both shaped and partly autonomous.
