Programme Note

Sha’aph is the orchestral culmination of the Souffle portfolio. It pushes the orchestration system toward radical extremes: compact blocks of breath, friction masses, gasping, pulse, apnoea and prolonged stasis.

Where earlier works often merge respiration and friction, Sha’aph confronts and compresses them. Compaction, dilution and abrupt dynamic contrasts make air dense and percussive, testing how an orchestra can overcome its own inertia and behave as a single unstable respiratory mass.
