Programme Note

Reverberated Feedbacks approaches the piano as a resonant processor whose body and pedal system transform sound through vibration rather than functioning only as a conventional keyboard instrument.

The work brings together two forms of augmentation: the Extended Pedal, which gives the performer expanded control of the dampers, and an internal amplification system that projects sound directly into the instrument. Together they allow resonance and feedback to be shaped through the piano’s strings, soundboard, frame and pedal mechanism.

At the centre is reverberated feedback: acoustic feedback filtered by the piano itself and continually reshaped through touch, pedal action and the changing resonant state of the instrument. Technology is therefore incorporated into the acoustic body rather than functioning as a separate electronic layer, creating unstable thresholds between resonance, amplification and feedback.
