Programme Note
Developed within the FRArt research on the Extended Pedal, Reverberated Impacts treats the grand piano as a resonant field rather than a keyboard instrument. The percussionist moves inside and around its body, activating strings, frame, soundboard and structural surfaces.
The removable pedal extension preserves direct control of the dampers while the performer moves around the instrument. Percussive impact and resonant decay therefore become a single compositional action: the piano is heard as a multidirectional landscape whose materials, gestures and reverberation can be shaped in real time.
