Programme Note
Reverberated Impacts was developed within the FRArt project devoted to the Extended Pedal. A percussionist approaches the grand piano from inside and around its body, activating strings, frame, soundboard and structural surfaces rather than remaining at the keyboard.
The removable pedal extension preserves direct control of the dampers while the performer moves around the instrument. Percussive impact and resonant decay therefore become a single compositional action: the piano is heard as a multidirectional landscape whose materials, gestures and reverberation can be shaped in real time.
