Programme Note
Solar Winds connects cello and piano through a reciprocal active-amplification system. Each musician can project sound through the body of their own instrument and toward the other, so the two acoustic bodies operate simultaneously as sources, resonators and loudspeakers surrounding the audience.
White noise and recordings derived from solar magnetic-field data pass through wood, strings and soundboards. A sensor attached to the cello bow adds a second level of activation: both the resonating body and the mechanism that excites it are augmented. The electronic system remains discreet, wireless and performer-controlled.
