Programme Note
Feed the Monster reimagines the piano as a living organism: a resonant body capable of absorbing, transforming and redistributing sound. Five spatialised musicians project amplified material toward the instrument, while the pianist controls an active vibration system that continually modifies the piano’s responsiveness.
Vibration speakers transmit sound into the soundboard, strings and wooden body. The piano becomes resonating chamber, acoustic filter and transformative membrane; sympathetic resonance, internal vibration and feedback range from raw instability to fragile harmonic complexity. Performer movement and the trajectories of projected sound make the architecture of the concert space part of the composition.
