Stac’aToy approaches Michelsonne toy pianos not as miniature versions of the piano, but as autonomous resonant objects. Their restricted range, metallic bells, wooden cases and mechanical particularities become the basis of a flexible ensemble for six to eight performers.

Opening and closing the keyboard drawer produces broad glissando-like gestures, while percussion on the body and keys activates both direct vibrations and internal bells. Guero-like sliding across the keyboard exploits the instrument’s unusual surface; accidental notes triggered by pressure and contact are incorporated into the musical material rather than corrected.

Tempo, dynamics and collective energy continually reshape this unstable mechanical background. Familiar childhood instruments become a complex field in which gesture, mechanism, resonance and unpredictability are inseparable.
