Jusqu’à l’afflux… explores air as a moving and fluctuating material, circulating between breath, sound and gesture. The idea of afflux — a flow of air — becomes both an unpitched harmonic field, with its own texture and timbre, and a dynamic force that continually reshapes density, colour and movement.
Clarinet and string trio move through breath sounds, multiphonics, voice, harmonics and additional noise. Brushed-string gestures and the clarinet’s extension of human breath allow the performers to emerge as a single corps sonore, in which instrumental technique, gesture and respiration participate in the same musical flow. Multiphonic and harmonic textures form a more static counterpart, suspending this movement within unstable mixtures of air and frequency.
The work ultimately explores what precedes sound and what continues beyond it. Beginning and ending through the same process of disappearance, instrumental air gradually gives way to human respiration before dissolving into silence.
